Ch Grant for Art House Holland residents at Fundación Valparaíso

One of the Valparaiso Foundation’s main aims is to offer artists from all over the world and from all branches of the arts (writers, musicians, painters, sculptors, visual artists, etc.), a quiet and peaceful retreat where they can concentrate on their art, free from distraction and the duties of daily life. Almost 2,000 international artists have lived and worked together in our residence over the last 27 years. The Ch Grant for Art House Holland residents at Fundación Valparaíso is an essential part of Valparaiso Foundation’s plight to restore its original calling and spirit. Thanks to the support and philanthropic efforts of Chispa López Casas, there will be at least one artist-resident from Art House Holland every year receiving the

Ch Grant.

The awarded artist will have the opportunity to enjoy the wide range of cultural activities and active arts debates offered by Fundación Valparaíso as part of its artists’ residential programme. The awarded artist for the Ch Grant for Art House Holland residents at Fundación Valparaíso will be shortlisted by Art House Holland, Fundación Valparaíso—chaired by Beatrice Beckett—and Chispa López Casas.

An established and well-recognised body of work, as well the artistic achievement during the previous stay at Art House are the criterion for the selection.

The Ch Grant for Art House Holland residents will cover the full amount of the residence fees (full room and board for 2 weeks).

The Fundación Valparaíso Artists Residence is situated amongst olive, orange and almond groves 2km from the beach at 150m above sea level. The Residence has magnificent views to the Mediterranean coast and the Sierra Cabrera, home to the town of Mojácar. This rural retreat, an old olive mill, has 8 private rooms with en suite bathroom, a dining room, a library containing more than 10,000 titles and various other common areas. Each unit consists of a studio, a bedroom and a bathroom. Several of the rooms also have outdoor terraces or access to the courtyard. It also has its own vegetable garden and 4 individual workshops for painters, sculptors and multimedia artists, as well as a study and auditorium for the musicians. Each month, four to eight artists come together at the Mojácar Residence. More than 25 years of experience has shown this number to be ideal for facilitating an interchange of ideas in a friendly and enriching atmosphere. Artists receiving the Ch Grant for Art House Holland residents at Fundación Valparaíso must participate, both on an individual and joint basis, in activities organised by Valparaiso Foundation and/or Art House Holland during their stay, whenever requested.

Concerning creative works produced during their stay in the Residence, grantees must mention that they have received the Ch Grant for Art House Holland residents at Fundación Valparaíso Residence in Mojácar (Spain). Written or public statements, issued on an individual or joint basis, linked to the creative project, in addition to all publications made regarding the work created during the granted stay, must mention, in the corresponding credits, biographies or curriculum vitae, the fact that the artist received the Ch Grant for Art House Holland residents at the Valparaiso Foundation Residence.
